Compensation for nightmare hotel stay
When we stay in a hotel, we expect to spend a relaxing night in a comfy bed and wake up the next morning feeling refreshed. But this was not the case for one hotel guest, whose stay turned into a bit of a nightmare.
The 40-year-old professional who lives abroad was in the UK on a business trip and was staying in a hotel in North Wales. The stay was going well until the man woke in the night with 50 to 60 bites all over his body. The man searched his bed sheets and found a number of bed bugs which he photographed as evidence.
The man had to visit his GP for medical advice as the bites were infected and oozing. The GP gave him antihistamines and a cream to treat the bites. Unfortunately, some of the bites have left the man with permanent scarring.
When the man came to see Bartletts expert personal injury solicitors in Chester, our team helped him to make a claim for personal injury, distress and a refund for the cost of the hotel stay. We made contact with the hotel in a dispute over their hygiene systems. The hotel denied any responsibility, claiming that their procedures were good and that the man had brought the bugs in himself in his luggage.
Our solicitors then organised proceedings to settle the dispute in court. The hotel representatives settled the dispute on the steps of the court and our client received £2,000 in compensation for personal injury, distress and a refund for his hotel stay.
