Bartletts Solicitors Wrexham office help pensioner knocked down by delivery van

When a pensioner was knocked down by a delivery van when shopping, Bartletts personal injury solicitors in Wrexham helped him get back on his feet and secured him the compensation he deserved.

The 80-year-old gentleman was visiting his local high street to do a bit of shopping, and was crossing the road using the pedestrian crossing, when a large delivery truck knocked him over. The driver had failed to observe the Highway Code rules for pedestrian crossings and failed to stop his vehicle. The truck collided into the gentleman who was crossing, who was knocked down at force to the road.

An ambulance was called to the scene by passers-by and the pensioner was taken to the accident and emergency department of the local hospital. He was examined and x-rayed, and diagnosed with a serious set of personal injuries including a broken leg, soft tissue damage, and was in severe shock. His broken leg was set in plaster.

Given the nature of his injuries, the gentleman stayed in hospital for a few days to recover and get over the shock of the accident.  Once his leg had mended, he was still suffering a considerable amount of ongoing pain, so he was given a course of physiotherapy sessions to help him get mobile again.

The gentleman came to see one of Bartletts’ experienced personal injury solicitors in Wrexham, on recommendation from a member of his family. Our personal injury lawyer quickly set about contacting the van driver’s insurance company and establishing his claim for personal injury compensation.

Bartletts then skilfully negotiated a settlement figure that reflected the level of pain and suffering the gentleman had endured, as well as compensation for the care and assistance he had needed since his accident.

Bartletts Solicitors in Wrexham help man struck on head by shop sign

When a shop sign fell on a young man, leaving him permanently scarred, Bartletts personal injury solicitors in Wrexham helped him win compensation for personal injury.

The young man, who was in his 20s, was walking across a car park to his car, when a swinging shop advertising sign fell off its hinges and landed on him. The sign was of considerable weight, and as it fell from height it hit the man’s head with a great deal of force. The man fell to the pavement, his head was bleeding profusely and he was in a lot of pain.

The young man went to the accident and emergency department of his local hospital, where the cut to his head was examined and stitched. He was left with a scar on his forehead near to the hairline. He was unable to return to work for a few days due to concussion and swelling to his head and was prescribed some strong painkilling medication. He also needed a course of physiotherapy to alleviate some neck pain which also resulted from the accident.

When the young man came to see one of Bartletts specialist personal injury solicitors, he had a permanent scar at the site where the sign had landed on his head. Our experienced lawyer contacted the shop’s insurance company on his behalf and got to work on establishing his claim for personal injury compensation.

Bartletts successfully secured a settlement for the young man, as compensation for his personal injury, physiotherapy, medical costs and compensation for his loss of earnings.

Compensation for finger trapped in escalator

Supermarkets are renowned for being busy places and full of common hazards such as sliding doors and escalators. However, when a hazard has been reported to staff and no action is taken, an accident in a supermarket is just waiting to happen. This is just what happened to one gentleman who came to see Bartletts specialist personal injury lawyers in Chester.

The 64-year-old pensioner was visiting his local supermarket, and travelling on the travellator from one level to another when his finger was caught in a side panel that had come loose. He had come to no serious harm, but out of concern for other shoppers he reported the problem to the supermarket staff and then went on with his shopping.

Two weeks later, he returned to the same supermarket and used the same travellator, and again he got his finger caught in the missing panel of the escalator. This time, the speed of the travellator meant that the tip of his finger was sliced off, and started to bleed profusely.

He went to the accident and emergency department of the local hospital, who dressed and treated the wound. It took nearly six weeks to heal, but left him with permanent deformity to the top of his finger and some ongoing loss of sensation.

When the gentleman came to see Bartletts Solicitors, he was concerned that the supermarket had taken no action after he had initially reported the hazard, and put him and other shoppers in danger.

Our expert personal injury solicitor quickly set to work and established that the supermarket had failed in their duty of care to make sure the gentleman was safe while he was on their premises.

Bartletts Solicitors in Chester secured a good level of compensation for the gentleman to reflect compensation for personal injuries and compensation for out of pocket expenses, as well as sending a message back to the supermarket to take better note of customer’s safety concerns in the future.

How will you pay your bills if you are injured or have an accident?

If you are injured in an accident, leaving you unable to work, you may naturally be worried about how you will continue to support your family and pay your household bills. As part of our comprehensive service, Bartletts personal injury Solicitors in Chester could arrange for an interim compensation payment to help you with your outgoings and expenses, while you recuperate.

We recently helped a 35-year-old factory operative who had been injured at work, secure interim compensation payments from his employer. The gentleman slipped on some liquid which had been spilt on the floor by a colleague, and bumped his already injured shoulder against a wall.

The fall aggravated an existing injury to his left shoulder joint, and left him in need of surgery to repair the problem. When he came to see one of Bartletts expert personal injury lawyers, the gentleman had just been diagnosed and was concerned that he would need to be off work for some time following the surgery, which would leave him and his family out of pocket.

Our tenacious lawyer, advised him to claim compensation for personal injuries and compensation for loss of earnings from his employer. Employers are vicariously liable for the actions of their employees, and also have a duty of care to make sure their employees are safe while they are at work.

We contacted the employer and quickly established the gentleman’s personal injury claim.  Once liability had been admitted by his employers insurance company we then secured interim payments to make sure his monthly financial commitments were being met while the long term compensation claim was being settled.

This allowed the gentleman to have the surgery he needed without financial worries, as well as a course of physiotherapy afterwards to fully rehabilitate him and get him back to work.

Bartletts then negotiated with his employer’s insurance company to secure a final compensation figure. As a result they paid for his arthroscopic surgery and follow up physiotherapy treatment, as well as loss of earnings, out of pocket expenses and a generous compensation for personal injuries.
